Haley Barbour Delivers Keynote at GE Forum

General Electric (GE) held a four-day forum on American Competitiveness with a look at U.S. manufacturing. One of the keynote speakers was former Gov. Haley Barbour (R) of Mississippi. They also held panel discussions on "the Future of Manufacturing" and "Recharging American Manufacturing."

The sea captain not only founded the world famous Pabst Brewery, he was a philanthropist and real estate developer and had a great influence on the growth of this Midwestern city on Lake Michigan. Historian John Eastberg shows us examples of craftsmanship, original furnishings and art which teach us about Pabst’s German heritage, Milwaukee’s history, and America’s Gilded Age.

Fed Chair Ben Bernanke says economic recovery in the country will continue at a moderate pace, hampered by the sluggish housing sector. The Fed will keep interest rates at record lows until about 2014. In remarks to reporters after a round of policy meetings Wednesday, Mr. Bernanke also warned that the U.S. faces a fiscal cliff unless Congress acts ahead of tax hikes and spending cuts scheduled at the start of 2013.
